With an interest in seeing students exposed to a wide variety of material and grounded in the basics, the middle-school curriculum offers extensive work in reading, writing, and grammar, as well as development in Spanish, daily P.E., and opportunities to pursue fine arts.
Our English curriculum is divided into two separate sections: writing mechanics and literature. Our history curriculum moves from U.S. history to regional government and national civics to global cultures. Students spend a year being introduced to Spanish before completing Spanish I over the course of 7thand 8thgrade combined. Our science classes focus on the scientific method, analytical thinking, and hands-on lab work in earth, life, and physical sciences. In mathematics students are able to move at an appropriate pace with AC offerings in pre-algebra in 7thgrade and three different 8thgrade offerings in math.
Because active and healthy students learn more effectively, students participate in P.E. every day and throughout the year participate in a separate health curriculum that takes place roughly one per week.
With shorter classes and an afternoon break, the middle-school schedule and curriculum are designed to provide the basic skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to be successful in upper school in an energetic and supportive environment.
