Drama

Theatre and drama interweave many forms of expression to bring characters and stories to life.  The spoken word, the artistic use of backdrops, props, costumes, and make up, the addition of music, song, and dance all work together on the stage to the thrill of our student thespians and the delight of our audiences.

Spring Musical

The Spring Musical is a Deerfield-Windsor tradition and a campus wide event.  Each year, this special undertaking showcases the many talents of our students, and the hard work of parents and staff.

DWS students in the 6th - 12th grades may audition for a part in the show, with the addition of  Lower School students as needed.  Auditions usually take place in December, and performances are conducted at the Albany Municipal Auditorium the following Spring.   In addition to acting, students can work in set design/construction, costumes, make up, lighting, sound, and publicity.

Recent productions have covered a broad range of exciting performances, including:

  •  How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying (2013)
  • Once Upon a Mattress (2012)
  • Thoroughly Modern Miller (2011)
  • Hello Dolly (2010)
  • Fiddler on the Roof (2009)
  • Cinderella (2008)
  • The Wizard of Oz (2007)

One-Act Play

Students in the 8th grade and above may audition for participation in the One Act Play which is performed as part of the fall GISA competition. One Act is a unique form of theatrical competition.  The school team is given 15 minutes from the time the previous school clears the wings to set up and begin their performance, and microphone use on stage is prohibited.  For more information about this program contact our director, Mrs. Lindsey Stewart.

Literary Team

Literary competition encompasses a wide range of activities including spelling, personal essay, argumentative essay, oral interpretation, extemporaneous speaking, piano solo, voice solo, trio, and quartet. Students in the 8th through 12th grades may audition to represent DWS in annual spring competition. For more information, contact Mrs. Dianne Giddens, our literary coordinator.

International Thespian Society

DWS is proud to have two troupes on campus – Upper School and Middle School. Membership is obtained by earning points through participation in performing arts programs at school. Until requirements are met, a student may be a thespian apprentice.  Mrs. Lindsey Stewart is the Upper School sponsor and Mrs. Dianne Giddens is the Middle School sponsor.
