The vision of Deerfield-Windsor’s sports medicine program is to provide injury prevention, treatment, rehabilitation services, and athlete education of recognized excellence to each and every student-athlete. Our top priority is to ensure that all student-athletes attain the highest potential for safe and effective participation in their chosen sports.
The purpose of the sports medicine program is to allow easy access to sports medicine services to student-athletes, to encourage a philosophy of sport that places a high value on health and wellness, to enable injured student-athletes to return to their sports as soon as is medically safe, and to substantially reduce the risk of athletic injury for the student-athletes in our care.
Despite all precautions, injuries occur, and when they do, the qualifications of the Deerfield-Windsor athletic training staff truly become apparent. Regardless of the severity of the injury, our athletic trainers are prepared to give immediate quality evaluations and treatments for the condition. When the athletes return to competition, they do so after completion of a personally designed rehabilitation program with the goal of getting the athlete back to pre-injury status as quickly as possible.
The underlying philosophy for the sports medicine program is that the needs of the student-athlete shall always be the first consideration for all members of the sports medicine staff. We are committed to ongoing evaluation of our sports medicine program so that our student-athletes can be assured of the highest quality in sports medicine care.
Furthermore, we are committed to addressing problems and concerns in a timely manner so that the needs of our student-athletes and coaching staffs can continue to be met.
Deerfield-Windsor School is quite fortunate to have a partnership with Phoebe Putney Health System. Phoebe’s Sports Medicine Department provides the Knights with the expertise of Jeff Tanner, ATC. Additionally, Anna Williams, ATC, joined the Deerfield-Windsor sports medicine staff in 2011 to assist in providing coverage for various athletic teams and events.
Strength and Conditioning
Deerfield-Windsor’s strength and conditioning program
is one of the tools given to athletes to help them excel in their sports. Resistance training for injury prevention and improved performance is an important part of the Deerfield-Windsor athletic experience and is maintained in both in-season and off-season programs. The staff and coaches ensure that Deerfield-Windsor students are better prepared, have greater strength, and are at less risk for injury.
At Deerfield-Windsor, we strive to help athletes reach their fullest potential through hard work, recognizing that proper training methods and great effort can lead to outstanding achievement.
The goal of this program is to help each athlete be the best competitor that he or she can be in their sport. This program is designed to develop the physical attributes to meet the specific demands of the sport. Success of the program will be measured by a battery of tests specific to the goals of the program and by performance in competition.
