Counseling

The primary obligation of the Guidance Counseling Department at Deerfield-Windsor School is to help meet the needs of all students academically, socially, and personally while encouraging an attitude of respect for all individuals.

Deerfield-Windsor’s Counseling Department provides support services to students who may be experiencing problems with the process of learning. Interventions include, but are not limited to short term counseling and guidance, crisis intervention and referrals to appropriate community resources.

The Deerfield Windsor Lower School values the importance of character education and this is shown every day when you walk down the hallways and step into classrooms. DWS is committed to promoting the personal and intellectual growth of all of our students. In keeping with that goal, the core values of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship build the foundation of our community and our character education program at Deerfield Windsor School. Being educated is certainly mastering content and subject matter, but at DWS, it also means developing character and learning to make good decisions.

Each month children engage in activities involving the character trait of the month and learn ways to demonstrate that trait towards one another and with their families. The faculty and staff strive to make character education an important part of Lower School students’ everyday lives. This is done by the faculty’s modeling character traits, the Atmosphere of Kindness (AOK) campaign, monthly classroom guidance lessons, assemblies, community service projects, and each student’s pledge to make our school bully-free.
