At Deerfield-Windsor’s Lower School, we take the school’s mission statement very seriously:
Deerfield-Windsor School exists to inspire in its students, a passion for learning,
a commitment to personal integrity, and a sense of social responsibility.
Mission statement
A Passion for Learning…
Ask anyone who has walked the halls of the lower school, and they will tell you that their first impression is an atmosphere of happiness. The classrooms are full of busy, well-behaved children who are intent on the task at hand. Children are encouraged to take risks and are willing to do so because their teachers understand the value of “the process” as compared with “the product.” Visitors to our school are used to the sound of laughter spilling from classrooms as our students thrive and grow in their love of learning.
A Commitment to Personal Integrity…
Respect of self and others is the expectation at our school. Our teachers work hard to create an environment which fosters the golden rule. Our lower school counseling curriculum reinforces the lessons being taught in the classroom about personal integrity, focusing on the six pillars of character – trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. Our 5thgrade Order of the Round Table members serve as mentors and role-models of integrity to our younger students.
A Sense of Social Responsibility…
From our Kindergarten’s “Defenders of the Earth Club” to our annual schoolwide involvement in collecting holiday gifts for the children of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, our students stay busy all year in one project after another. Many of our projects deal with being good stewards of the earth while others are strictly philanthropic, but all of them teach our students that they have a responsibility to make the world a better place through their generosity, their compassion, or their sweat!
