The newly renamed and reorganized Parents Association (formerly PTO) is off and running for the 2012-13 school year. With a new constitution, structure, and title, the PA is doing its part to make DWS a great school for our families.
This year, the PA has initiated grade-level representatives as part of its restructure. Parents can expect to hear from their reps soon. These individuals will work as liaisons between parents, teachers, and the PA. On the lower campus, they will serve in addition to room moms (and not as replacements).
The Parents Association held two events in the first week of school. August 14th was the first PA meeting for the new officers, committee chairs, and grade reps. Then, two days later, the Parents Association hosted a New Parent Coffee at the home of Joy Pilcher, PA president. Parents new to DWS from last year and this, were welcomed by the PA’s leadership and members of the administration. Both events were well attended, and those present expressed enthusiasm for the school and appreciation for such a warm DWS welcome.
Joy and her team of volunteers want to make it easy for parents to be involved and connected through the PA. The organizations next meeting is set for September 11th at 8:30 on the Upper Campus, and all are invited to attend! Parents are also encouraged to complete a volunteer form. It’s a great way to meet new people and demonstrate your commitment to your child’s education. Interested grandparents are also invited to sign up!
