DWS 2012 Homecoming Week was packed with school spirit and fun activities. The Student Council under the leadership of sponsor Mrs. Janet Guillebeau, planned and organized activities on the Upper Campus.
Every day of the week had a different theme on both campuses such as Backwards Day and Wacky Hair Day on the Lower Campus and Tacky Tuesday and Decade Dress-up on the Upper Campus. Upper school students enjoyed a Chick-fil-a lunch and field day games one afternoon. High school students gathered Thursday evening to watch School of Rock on the football field. Friday began with the traditional Upper School breakfasts by grade followed by the Powder Puff Football game. The annual Senior Lunch Auction once again raised funds for many worthy causes. There was the addition of a faculty/student flag football game which was won by the faculty in overtime! The Pep Rally on Friday featured a Reverse Homecoming Court and Coach Belcher's antics as the Knights' #1 fan.
On Friday night, the Knights dominated the Westfield Hornets, winning 28 – 7. During half-time the Alumni Association recognized two distinguished alums with inaugural alumni association awards (see article) and the Homecoming Court was presented. The representatives were as follows: Seniors - Ansley Arrington, Maggie Greene, and Jill Holloway, Junior - Marli Collier, Sophomore - Mallory Sammons, Freshman - Brooke Timmerman. Ansley Arrington was crowned Homecoming Queen by 2011 Homecoming Queen, Morgan Sumners. The Homecoming Dance followed on Saturday night in the cafeteria. Also on Saturday, Alumni gathered at Doublegate Country Club for an evening of fun. Classmates from 1987 were on hand to celebrate their 25th reunion. Music was provided by Brad Hallford ’89. The alumni enjoyed a special visit from long time, lower school employee Frank Brown.
