The Excelsior is the student produced newspaper that covers the latest news of Deerfield-Windsor School, along with all school sports and student life.
Students learn the fine art of journalistic writing and editing while using the latest technologies such as Macs, iPads, and Adobe software. The Excelsior is managed by Upper School students, and every issue pushes the boundaries of student design and seeks to inform the student body on what it cares about the most.
Many years ago, Deerfield-Windsor School had a newspaper called The Scop, which ended its run sometime in the 1970s. In early 2010, faculty member, Dr. Travis Campbell , and William Chan '11, a senior at the time, revived the newspaper with help from The Albany Herald and its editor-in-chief, Jim Hendricks. The Excelsior won a $2,500 grant from the American Society of News Editors which was used as the seed to get the paper on its way. The Excelsior published its first issue in November 2010.
The paper is free for all students and faculty on the Middle/Upper campus.
